Acceptance of Mobile Health Technology in the Value Chain [Research-in-Progress]

The decision chain in a large organization involves multiple decision makers with dissimilar viewpoints and interests. Technology adoption decisions made within any large organization are complex and hard to predict (Aroskar 1998; Corley 1998; Sadler-Smith, E. and Sheffy, E. 2004). The decisional complexity is further exacerbated when the adoption process extends to involve extra-organizational entities and include emergent technologies. Likewise, m-health adoption involving emergent technology architecture that extends from the care provider’s organization to patients at their homes poses major challenges. In this report, we present our exploratory efforts to meet these additional challenges. In particular, we report how we garner insights in the complex m-health technology adoption scenario and how we plan to dovetail the insights in the form of additional constructs and/or relationship to extend technology acceptance model for emergent and incoming m-health technologies. The finalized, context aware, and hybridized TAM model will then be converted to a survey instrument which will then be utilized to assess the predictors of m-health technology adoption in a large healthcare provider in US.
